went to liang yan cheng's talk for 3nites so far. pretty interesting.thought just came back on wed, but wed's nite talk was pretty engaging and mircalously, didnt doze off leh.... haas he talked abt chinese and greece culture. the part which i find veri interesting was the part on how he link our kitchen utensils to our culture. The western culture was much more scientifically developed den the chinese one is because: they lack of natural resources, thus having to go out of their comfort zone to obtain wat they need to survival. this forced them to face the forces of nature at the very beginning of their civilisation. the way they obtain these resources is either u work wif them, but they often get a better bargain. OR, u work against them, and they'll beat u down. (erm, erm, hint hint*) that is if u get it lar. heh and their utensils, a fork and knife... both poking into the food that they devour. reflect on their culture on fighting wif their fist for things they own. and they have their share of food on individual plates. they are not rlly used to sharing. on the other hand, chinese culture functions differently. they, being the bloody lucky ones, had natural resources in china. (yellow river, xian jiang, etc) soil was pretty fertile dere. all they haf to do is to build one great wall of china to seal up wat's theirs. so they seldom wage war out of their territory and expand their kingdom lar. i mean, they've got wat they haf. tis is the civilisation that is built on land, whereas the western or greece culture is the sea culture. however, chinese, are not veri gd at fighting nor are they veri united. haas. sadly. they always haf internal conflict. zi ji ren da zi ji ren. haas. however, they blend wif the different ppl by using culture. mixed culture. thus, chinese culture is actualli a mix of many different culture. like hokkien, cantonese, teow chew, hakkai, etc. and their utensils are spoon and chopsticks, which doesnt rlly haf any "sha shang li". and their food are cooked as a dish, and shared among the whole table of ppl and the lazysucy oso aid them in it lar. tis showed that they are a less barbaric bunch of ppl, perhaps due to their geographical advantage lar. it was amazing listening to professor liang telling us wat he knows and how he can link his philosophy knowledge to christianity. wat's more, his knowledge on science was oso remarkable. the theories to how the world is formed, whether is really formed in 6 days,etc. tis include scientific creationism or creationism. certainly worth checking it up(: during these 3 individual days, his love and respect for both China and God was shown thru his talks and how God has blessed him. He oso showed his love for the fellow human beings. today he touched on post modern culture which disintergrates everything. which go against all the usual stuff, modifies them all(scary movie is one classic example. stephen chow's movies too.) how issues now have no absolute right or wrong to it (nihilism) wif examples like: brokeback mountain, da vinci code... haas, alvin oso said nowadays, our argumentive essays are built on tis foundation. chim and how we, christians should form the post post modern culture. heh. to revert and save our culture. all in all, i believe all those who were at his talk certainly benefited alot from it. thus, let's remember him in our prayers and pray for his missionaries in china and hopefully one day, he will fulfill his wish that enables him to get in touch wif the middle east peeps. and hopefully we will be able to contribute in our unique ways, and not wait to be influenced. to create rainbow culture. smiles(: |
